The Ocean Modern take
Poul Cadovius designed the Royal System in 1948 to lift heavy furniture off the floor and onto the wall, freeing space and letting in light. Wall-mounted wooden rails carry shelves on slender metal brackets, alongside cabinets with woven-wood doors, rippled glass or drawers. The airy result suits a bright room that values open floor.
Style itMount the oak version across a living room wall above a low sofa, mixing books and ceramics.

From the maker
The iconic Royal System® shelving (1948) was Danish designer Poul Cadovius’s elegant, innovative solution to heavy furniture that he felt took up too much floor space. One of the first wall-mounted storage systems, it was designed to move furniture off the floor and onto the walls, bringing in more space and light. Reintroduced in 2010, this versatile, enduring system consists of wall-mounted wooden rails, wooden shelves with slender metal brackets, and a variety of wooden cabinet options.— Design Within Reach
