Warren Platner believed modernism had room for the gentle, graceful decoration of a period style like Louis XV. His 1966 collection proves it: as many as 1,000 welds shape each airy steel wire base. Warren Platner worked with design giants I.M. Pei and Eero Saarinen before developing his Platner Collection (1966), which reflects his belief that there’s room in modernism “for the kind of decorative, gentle, graceful design that appeared in a period style like Louis XV.” This airy steel wire collection, for which he devised the structure and production method, requires as many as 1,000 welds per piece to create.
